Wicked (2003 Original Broadway Cast)
By Stephen Schwartz, Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel

wicked is the most amazing musical. ever.
i never thought i'd see the equal of such happy-making films like 'The Sound of Music' and 'The Music Man' and 'Mary Poppins', etc, etc.
then i saw this. live. in a huge theatre.
i wouldn't be surprised if i was alone in this, but at the intermission and the end, i was so moved by the music i could not speak. i genuinely couldn't, or i'd burst into tears. not of sadness or anything (the story is happy), just to let out some of the pent-up emotions that were within me. i tend to let music get to me; in fact, that's why i cry so much at films. i cry at Beauty and the Beast every single time. but this was so far beyond anything i've ever watched, it was incredible.
the best song should currently be playing; it's the cast which i saw. kerry ellis, who plays elphaba ('wicked' witch of the west), has the best voice i have EVER heard. honestly, she tops julie andrews! and from me, that is praise of the highest degree, believe me. i now aspire to one day be able to sing 'defying gravity' as well as her. yeah, right.
the story itself is just really good! it's the story of glinda and elphaba, how they met and their histories, up to when dorothy leaves, though she never appears. it's actually a very political piece. one song that touched me personally was 'no good deed goes unpunished'. NOTE: IF YOU ARE EVER GOING TO GO SEE IT, DO NOT READ ON. IT'LL TAKE AWAY THE JOY OF DISCOVERING THE STORY AND THE CHOICES MINNIE HOLZMAN MADE TO MAKE IT WORK WITH FRANK L. BAUM'S BOOK. it's the song elphaba sings after fiyero gets captured; how she will never do anything good again because the world was determined to see her as wicked, and therefore counted all her good deeds as evil. it kind of hit me, cos that's sometimes how christians feel.
just wow. wow. WOW.

have you ever been amazed at how fast God can answer prayer? i've actually only recently started actually praying for things outside of my own life and faith. and the results have been stunningly quick. one friend was distancing herself and getting involved in things she shouldn't (nothing terrible); i prayed; this week, an end to it has come, however temporary. i've been praying a while that one friend would, either through me or her closer Christian friend come to know God; she now goes to church with her. she's developed a liking for Christian music; she knows about and enjoys Matt Redman!!!
Lord, You are Good!

i've seen high school musical 2! i will not go on about it too much, but it's GOOD!!! for any of you out there who actually enjoyed the first one (like ME!), it could be said it's even better! for those of you who are romantics, it definitely is. there's more in that area. heehee

also good film: arthur and the invisibles. i really wasn't expecting much, but it's really good! cast includes that cute kid who's in like EVERY film...charlie from the new willy wonka, robert de niro, snoop dogg, madonna and loads of other famous cool people i don't know the names of! it's good!

well...today was a bit chaotic. i took megane and her friends to go see ratatouille. chaperoning is not that good...especially since one girl lost quite a bit of money, sulked for a while, her friends didn't know you aren't supposed to talk in the cinema and they sat and gossipped about megane right by her. it just wasn't a great time. but i'm getting better at calling on God for help to manage my self-control and guidance on what to say, and this was another opportunity to practice!!!

HSM 2 is here!!! i've not seen the film, but megane has introduced me to all the songs on youtube during niki's absence. is it just me or has the world learnt to make really good sequels??? i don't know how many of you actually enjoyed the first High school Musical despite its cheese, but it's the one movie that just automatically cheers me up. well, the sequel does it too. AND, Disney break their unwritten rule to omit kissing scenes, and Troy and Gabriella finally kiss! maybe noone else cares about htat, and maybe they think i'm weird, but honestly as a passionate movie-watcher they pass up so many ideal opportunities, and it was about time.

just came back from a drama performance!!!
BRIEFING: last year, i did this 30 minute version of a Midsummer Night's Dream for the Shakespeare Schools' Festival, and it was GREAT. this year, they told us we were the best school (woop) and asked us to do a 10 minute version for a publicity thing in front of a lot of rich people. it was SO cool!!!
Once again, i got to play Demetrius. so i was a guy. but i didn't mind!!! i LOVE shakespeare, so it matters not. the rich compnay then treated us to a really posh dinner, with spring rolls, fried fish, chips and sodas!!! LOTS of sodas!!! and the cast is just fun to be with, especially my close friends and the girl who played Lysander (the other main guy). it was so much fun!!! and the food was good!!! i'm on a high! i don't think i'm gonna sleep too well though...MUCH caffeine. pook. oh well. i'm VERY glad i did it!!! heehee...
